The Ogun Police Command has arrested two commercial sex workers for allegedly stabbing a middle aged man, Adeyinka Olayinka to death in Ifo area of the state.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, the State’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), made the disclosure on Wednesday in a statement made available to newsmen in Abeokuta.

Oyeyemi said the incident happened on Tuesday at KS Hotel in Ifo Local Government Area.

“While the argument was going on, Basiru who is a friend to Angela broke a bottle and injured the deceased.

“Angela used the broken part of the bottle to stab the deceased in the armpit thereby cutting one of his nerves, consequent upon which he bled to death,’’ he said.

2 men caught stealing flowers and stuffed toys' from Manchester terror memorial

An angry dad captured the moment he confronted two men he accused of stealing flowers and stuffed toys from a memorial set-up in the wake of the Manchester terror attack .

Mark McNally, 43, was heading back from his local pub in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester, when he claims he saw the men take two bunches of flowers and a blue Smurf toy from the display.

When confronted, the men claimed in broken English they were actually putting flowers down on the display, not taking them - while one holds the toy.

Footage shows Mark angrily berating the duo, before telling them to return the flowers and then telling them to leave or he would 'knock the s*** out the pair of [them].

Mark, an engraver, said:
"Memorials are a mark of respect and that's widely understood.I was raging inside but luckily I kept it together well. I was so angry with it all. There had been a vigil at the sundial in the centre of town for the victims of the attack and people laid flowers, cards and teddies there. At first, I'd had a couple of pints and I sat down facing the road waiting for my bus.I wasn't sure what they were doing but they were acting a bit strange so that's when I started to film them.
"I saw one of the guys with flowers in his hands and originally I thought he was going to put them on the memorial but then I saw them walking away with them."Unfortunately, I didn't notice they had a stuffed toy as well when I was there.

Police Arrest Suspected Kidnappers Of Lagos School Students

The Special Intelligence Response Team, IRT, of the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, says it has arrested three suspects in connection with the kidnap of six students of Model College, Igbonla, Lagos.

He said the suspects were arrested on Tuesday in Benin.

According to Abba Kyari, an assistant commissioner of police, the three suspects arrested have been involved in various kidnap incidents within the country.

“Three of the militant kidnappers, who left the creek and came to Benin to visit one of their members that was injured in recent gun battle with security agents, were arrested by IRT in Benin.

“The suspects are Egelu Endurance, aka Jubby, 25, a native of Abere town in Ovia South L.G.A Edo; Stanley Yomi Irabomini, 25, aka Powei from Ovia South LGA of Edo State and Bentel Endurance, 24, also from Ovia South LGA Edo State.

Mr. Kyari said the suspects have confessed to have participated in the kidnapping of prominent personalities in Lagos and Ogun state.

Buhari’s Health, No Cause For Alarm- Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday assured Nigerians that there was nothing to worry about President Muhamadu Buhari’s health, Premium Times reports.

Mr. Mohammed, while addressing journalists after the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, said Mr. Buhari “is in very very competent hands and there is no cause for alarm.”

The president has been in London for three weeks where he is receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness.

Several Nigerians have expressed worry about his health and his ability to continue to run the government despite his failing health. His critics like Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State have also called for his resignation.

The government has, however, repeatedly said the president was recovering well and would soon return to continue his work currently being handled by his deputy, Yemi Osinbajo.

Woman hides dead mother in freezer to collect her 10 years pension

A woman kept her dead mother hidden in a freezer for ten years so she could continue to claim an old age pension equivalent to £1700-a-month, prosecutors revealed today.

The 90-year-old’ corpse was found after detectives started investigating the alleged social security fraudster, who is 55 and cannot be named for legal reasons.

She was living in a detached house in the picturesque village of Horsarrieu, close to Pau, in South West France, with her mother’s remains at the end of the garden.

‘They were hidden in a freezer, and there had been no report of the mother’s death,’ said a prosecuting source in nearby Mont-de-Marsan, capital of the Landes department.
‘The freezer was not connected to the electricity supply going into the house. It was just a hiding place,’ the source added.
The suspect was first interviewed by gendarmes on Tuesday, and claimed that her mother had died seven years ago.

Investigators noticed, however, that there had been no medical fees claimed by the mother since 2007, suggesting that the time of death was more likely to be a decade ago.

The Mirror reports that all the mother’s benefits arrangements, including drawing an old age pension, continued as normal throughout that time.

At the time of death, the pair were living some 200 miles away, close to Toulouse, which means that the woman would have transported the corpse in secret when they moved to Horsarrieu in July 2016.

Police have evidence that the suspect had put her own picture on her mother’s driving licence – an offence that led to a search of the property. The corpse was found wrapped in a tarpaulin, with old clothes used to hide it.

An autopsy was due to be held on Wednesday to try to establish whether the mother had died of natural causes, or whether foul play was involved.

Muslims, Traditionalists Clash In Ekiti Over The ‘God’ To Worship At A Particular Time

There was confusion in Ikun community in Moba Local government Area of Ekiti State on Tuesday evening as Muslims in the community and masquerade worshippers clashed at the central mosque in the community.

The crisis, it was gathered was as a result of a clash in the timing of the breaking of the day’s ramadan fast by the Muslims, who had converged on the Ansar-ud-Deen Central Mosque in the community and the procession of the masqueraders with their “Àjàgùnmàlè” deity.

It was gathered that the fasting Muslims had converged on the central mosque in the community to break their fast and pray, while the traditionalists were said to have also begun their procession at about the same time.

A source in the Ikun claimed that “in the community, the tradition is that when the masqueraders, which is once in three years, hold their procession, any form of noise is not tolerated. It is done in absolute silence. But the Muslims’ call to prayer was done at about the same time and this, I believe, caused the clash.”

The Muslim worshippers were said to have been beaten with cudgels, stones and metals, resulting in varying degrees of injuries to them, just as the mosque was vandalised.

Windscreens of two cars vehicles parked in the mosque were also smashed just as the glass panes of the mosque’s windows.

The Imam of the mosque, Alh Abdul-Rasak Abubakar-Bello, received a head injury and was treated at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital in Ado Ekiti (EKSUTH), while five other worshippers were also injured.

Abubakar-Bello said they were held hostage in the mosque for hours by the masqueraders, who he said threatened to kill them, saying “there was no way we could escape because they laid siege outside the mosque after initially attacking us inside the mosque with iron and woody rods.

When we succeeded in locking ourselves inside the mosque, they started throwing stones at us.”

The Muslim community alleged that the police ignored their distress calls while also alleging that Oba Olusola supervised the attack.

The National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO), in a statement, also condemned the attack and also accused the Oba Olatunde and the Police of complicity in the crisis.

Oba Olatunde has however responded saying; “there has always been crisis between them because the shrine is very close to the mosque; that is why we took the step of informing the various bodies beforehand, to avoid trouble. Because they have to go to their shrine, there’s always trouble that is why I wrote a letter to them to ask them to do their thing and it takes less than one hour.”

He said the Muslim community had met with the traditional council and they had agreed that there would not be noise during the time of the procession, pointing out that “I gave them another option of using the other mosques in the town instead of the one close to the shrine, all in a bid to avert trouble.”

According to him, “in the full glare of everybody, when the Egungun procession was coming at about 6:35 or 6:40, the call for prayers began to ring out and it was a surprise to everybody. They even threw a missile from upstairs which smashed one of the vehicles parked at the mosque. If not that the processing traditionalists avoided the missile, they would have been injured. That was how they started retaliating.”

He said his intervention had saved the day, saying “if not for my quick intervention, because I sent my chiefs to intervene immediately, it would have escalated and it would have been a very bad situation. If they had done their prayers quietly, there wouldn’t have been any crisis.”

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Ekiti State police command, Mr Alberto Adeyemi, said the clash between the masqueraders and Muslims had been brought under control and normalcy has been restored to the community.

Philippine Leader Slams Chelsea Clinton Over Rape Criticism

It actually hurt him, lol. Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte denounced the daughter of former US President Bill Clinton on Wednesday after she criticised a comment he made about rapes committed by soldiers.

In an expletive-laden speech at a navy event, Mr Duterte asked Chelsea Clinton if she also criticized her father when he had an affair with Monica Lewinsky in the White House when he was president of the United States.

He said he was being sarcastic when he told troops last week that he would take responsibility for any crimes they commit while implementing martial law that he declared in the southern third of the country, even if they rape three women.

Chelsea Clinton, responding last week to a tweet about Mr Duterte's rape comment, tweeted: "Not funny. Ever.''

Oh well, she only used three letter words, why use uncountable sir? Looooool.

“The suspects claimed they came to Benin to see their injured colleague and relax for a while before going back to the creek.”
He said that efforts to arrest remaining gang members and rescue the school children was in progress.

It can be recalled that the students were abducted at Igbonla Model School, near Epe, Lagos.

The students were abducted at around 5 a.m. last Thursday by unknown gunmen, who arrived through a creek behind the school. The hoodlums broke through the school’s fence to gain access into the premises.

LUTH: 10 resident doctors allegedly injured during clash with security men

Ten members of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), secretariat Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba Chapter, were allegedly injured by some security men from the teaching hospital on Wednesday during a clash.

Dr Adebayo Sekunmade, the president of the ARD of the hospital told newsmen during a news conference.

He said that the doctors sustained injuries when they attempted to take over their secretariat from the security men stationed there by LUTH’s management.

Sekunmade told journalists that one of his members was inside the Secretariat at 2.00 a.m. on Tuesday but the security men ordered him out and locked it up.

“We decided to monitor developments around the secretariat after the incident. On Wednesday morning, we saw the security men loading our belongings from there into a waiting bus.

“When we confronted them, they said that they were directed to lock up the secretariat by the management of LUTH.

“We went to the Chief Medical Director’s office for dialogue but he refused to attend to us. He, however, directed us to the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) of LUTH,’’ he said.

Sekunmade said that the CMAC, Dr Olufemi Fasanmade, told them that the management of LUTH was retrieving the secretariat from the ARD.

Sekunmade said that he demanded a court order from Fasanmade to justify his action but he could not present it.

When contacted, the CMAC told journalists that LUTH’s management had given the ARD a letter asking it to vacate the building serving as its secretariat, six months ago.

“Nine days ago; we gave them another letter as a reminder to leave the building but they refused, and we decided to lock up the place,’’ he said.

Fasanmade said that the association should not have found it hard to vacate one of the seven accommodations it had within the hospital complex.

He said that the management wanted to use it for an important purpose.

“The doctors wanted to forcefully enter the building on Wednesday’s morning and LUTH’s security men had to disallow them.’’

Fasanmade said that the doctors resulted into attacking the security officials.

“We had to invite some police officers from the Ilasamaja and Bode Thomas Police Stations to secure the building and other LUTH’s belongings.

“Some of the injured security officials are in the hospital wards receiving treatment,’’ Fasanmade said.

UTME: JAMB withholds 76,923 results for malpractices

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) said Wednesday that it has withheld 76, 923 results of candidates who wrote the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination for various malpractices.

The board also said some super rich parents paid as much as N200, 000 to owners of Computer Based Centres (CBT) to upgrade the results of their children.

JAMB’s Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, said this at a briefing with reporters on Wednesday in Abuja.

He said the board has so far released 1, 606,901 results, adding that the agency is yet to release 80, 889 results.

Oloyede added that more results would be released once the board has finished clearing the candidates of any infractions.

He assured candidates that all the 80,889 outstanding results would be released before the commencement of admission.

Oloyede said: “So far we have released the results of 1,606,901 candidates after the examinations, leaving us with a balance of 80, 889. Out of this 80,000 we have deliberately withheld 76,923 for further investigation because of alleged malpractices in the centres where the examinations where held.

“There is no need to panic if you belong to the 80,000. For us we want to thoroughly investigate what had happened.

“We do not mean that this 80,889, all of them committed any infraction, no. We did not say so. In fact those who committed the infraction may be less than 10% of these people but when something happens in a centre pending investigation to know who was involved, who was not involved, the best thing is to withhold the results of certain number.

“The results that have not been released will be released before the commencement of the admission exercise for those who are not guilty of any infraction. 76, 923 results are the ones we are investigating the centres.

“Parents of these super VIP paid N200, 000 for each of the candidates to be able to score high marks. We are able to be ahead of them. Next year we are going to put electronic jammers in all the CBT centres. They better start to think of another way because we know that is what they do and we will also plan ahead of them.”

The JAMB registrar also said 640 candidates who could not write the examination because of biometric issue would have to retake it under his supervision.

“As at today, 640 candidates out of the 1.7 million across the country could not do biometric verification. We have investigated why and have found various reasons including the fact that some centres or fraudsters registered candidates taking the image of their thumbs rather than the actual thumbs.

“In fairness, what we think that we should do is to assume that the students were not guilty. We have decided that the whole 640 students will be made to write their examination as we promised them and they will also be part of those who will write their examination.

“Those people will however write the examination under my very own eyes because if you are well, you cannot be verified and you registered, we will still give them the opportunity,” he said.

He urged candidates who have problems with data to visit any JAMB-owned CBT centres for correction.

“Those who made mistake you will go and do the correction in JAMB CBT centres free of charge. We are not closing correction. Correction will continue. If you don’t have time now go next week or next month.

“At JAMB offices, they have been told to do the correction free once you have paid through TSA. Even the printing for you should be free,” he added.

Official Statement From JAMB On Cut-Off Mark 2017.

JAMB has stated that a meeting with officials will need to be conducted, after which the Cut-Off Marks for 2017 UTME will be announced.
No date has been announced for when the meeting will be conducted.
JAMB insists that it has not released the cut-off mark for the 2017 examination.
NAN reports that the Head, Media and Information, JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, made the clarification in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Tuesday.
He said that the policy committee meeting responsible for the determination of cut-off marks had not met.
According to him, it is in the best interest of candidates and other critical stakeholders to jettison cut-off marks for the various courses that are currently being paraded.
"We want to appeal to all candidates to jettison such speculations and engage themselves in more meaningful ventures that would add value to their future," he said.
Benjamin said results of the just concluded 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination had since been released, with a few others still being previewed.
"We want to appeal to Nigerians to understand that such candidates whose results are being previewed may not necessarily have participated in any malpractice.
"But rather, centres where they sat for the examination had issues during the conduct of examination.
"These issues were reflected on the CCTV footage and this suggests why they must be carefully investigated before releasing such results," he said.

Bill seeking to address Biafra agitation suffers setback

A Bill seeking to address Biafra agitation with the establishment of Development Commission for the Sputheast geo-polical zone suffered a setback on the floor of the House of Representatives Wednesday.

The sponsors of the Bill failed to present it for second reading.

The general principles of the bill, sponsored by Chukwuka Onyema (PDP, Anambra), Uzoma Nkem-Abonta (PDP, Abia) and Henry Nwawuba (PDP, Imo) was listed for debate Wednesday but had to be stepped down.

When it was time for the bill to be debated and the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara noticed that the lead sponsor Onyema, who is also the Minority Leader was not on the floor, he asked the Chairman, Rules and Business Committee, Emmanuel Oker-Jev to step it down.

At this point, voices were heard around the floor indicating that one of the sponsors, Nkem-Abonta was on ground.

The Speaker then asked Nkem-Abonta to take it.

On his feet, the lawmaker stated that he could not present the bill because it was agreed between them that the Minority Leader will present it and take the lead debate.

The bill was eventually stepped down with the leave of the House.

According to the snippets of the lead debate, the bill that seeks to establish the South East Development Commission would be charged with the responsibility among other things to receive and manage fund from allocation of the Federation Account for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads, houses and other infrastructural damages suffered by the region as a result of the effect of the civil war as well as tackle the ecological problems and any other related environmental or developmental challenges in the South East States.

The objectives of the Bill with the establishment of the South East Development Commission is help to tackle the infrastructure deficit in the South East.

“The creation of SEDC may help to end agitation for Biafra. It will be noted that the lack of Federal Government presence in South East geopolitical zone is the main reason for the current agitation for the creation of Biafra Republic.

“If there is strong federal government presence in the zone, our youth will not see Biafra as an alternative while fortune and fame seekers will not capitalize on that to hoodwink our gullible youths.

“The Bill will bring hope and employment in the South East region.

The synopsis further revealed the background of the bill stating that “The Civil War that ended in 1970 saw lots of destructions of roads, houses and other infrastructures in the South East region.

“Arising from the massive destruction of infrastructures and gruesome bloodletting that arise from the war, the then Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon proclaimed the three Rs. Reconciliation, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation, which he heralded his policy of “No Victor” No Vanquished”.

“These policies were meant to quickly heal the gaping wounds of the gruesome bloodletting, forget the horrors and evils of the war and quickly reintegrate the South East regions into the society.

“The question one will ask today is: have these South East regions of Nigeria been reconciled, rehabilitated, reconstructed and integrated into the mainstream of Nigeria Society. The answer is NO.

“This bill if passed into law will strategically accelerate the economic emancipation of the marginalized people of the South East who are still suffering from the shackles of the Civil War amongst other forms of deprivation.

“The bill will address the Three Rs, proclaimed of Reconciliation, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation abandoned over 40 years after the war, as to give hope to the South East Region”.

Being stepped down, the bill stands the chance of being presented at another legislative day.

Hermes bag shatters auction record, sells for $380,000

A luxury Hermes handbag fetched a jaw-dropping $380,000, shattering the world auction record in Hong Kong on Wednesday, Christie's said.

The auction house didn't identify the buyer of the matte white "Himalaya" crocodile skin Hermes Birkin bag.

The handbag was produced in 2014 and has 18 karat gold buckles and strap loops encrusted with 205 diamonds.

It fetched 2.94 million Hong Kong dollars ($380,000), which Christie's says is a record for any handbag sold at auction. The price flew past the presale estimate of HK 1.5 million-2 million ($193,000-$258,000) during 10 to 15 minutes of intense bidding in the auction room and from phone and online buyers, Christie's spokeswoman Gigi Ho said.

The price surpasses the record set a year ago when Christie's auctioned a similar Birkin bag for $300,000. It had identical specifications but was produced in 2008.

The 'Who Can Drink More Vodka' contest saw five participants rushed to intensive care, with one dying from consuming too much alcohol.

The bizarre competition took place in the city of Volgodonsk in south-western Russia's Rostov Oblast region and was organised by a local supermarket called Saveliy.

Fayose likes publicity – Presidecny carpets governor for asking Buhari to resign

Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, h‎as described Ekiti State governor’s call for President Buhari’s resignation as an act of desperation for publicity.

In a chat with Channels TV last night, Garba said the presidency never responds to anything Fayose says.
His words: “I’m sad that you are inviting me to speak on Governor Fayose. If you follow the Presidency, we don’t talk when he talks because he is desperate for publicity.
“We have a constitution that governs the country and the constitution is very clear about how the country runs. This country has a tripod of authority in terms of distribution of political power.
“You have the parliament which is doing its own work, you have the judiciary which is running, you have the executive and we don’t have any problem with this so therefore if anybody has a problem with the constitution then they should go and change it.”
Fayose on Tuesday urged Buhari, to resign if he truly loves the country, as ill-health was not allowing the him effectively discharge his constitutional duties.
Fayose, who addressed newsmen in Lagos on Tuesday, said being an avowed corruption fighter, Buhari is now under moral burden to save Nigeria from needless stagnation arising from his health challenges that have impacted negatively on his performance.
The governor said fighting corruption was not limited to ‎discovering large sums of money here and there, but doing the right thing at the right time.
He opined that taking a bow when necessary was also an indication of being morally upright.

The governor, who appraised the two years of the Buhari administration, said the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government had failed to deliver on its promises.

“So far, the APC-led Federal Government has been a government of misadventure and Nigerians are worse for it. They say they are fighting corruption but are shielding corrupt elements within their fold”, he said.

How Goodluck Jonathan was turned into ‘confused president’ by his brothers

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and former Security Adviser to the government of Bayelsa State, Chief Prerekeme Kpodoh has said that under former President Goodluck Jonathan, the Niger Delta region lost hope of good governance and development.

He noted that this was because the aides of the former President from the Niger Delta region turned him to a ‘confused President’.
Kpodoh said this in a statement he made available to newsmen yesterday where he also slammed those defending Jonathan.
He said nobody should stay in Abuja or outside the region to put up defence against those criticising the former president.
He said, “Under our brother, we lost hope because aides from our region turned him to confused President.
“Look at President Muhammadu Buhari, he is not from the Niger Delta but the region has started witnessing a change.
‘’Modular refineries were approved for illegal refinery operators.
“With Diezani, who is from Niger Deltan, the region faced crisis without a clear cut policy to empower the region.
“Nobody should stay in Abuja and outside the region to put up defence against those castigating Jonathan years of fraud. Nobody is a fool and we know what we are doing.
“If a leader fails, the Niger Delta people have the right to tackle him.
“We know what we are saying. We had expected that with a President from the region, all our expectation would have been met.
“But what we witnessed during Jonathan’s six years was wasteful years of corruption and anti development tendencies.”

Why Buhari repeatedly contested for president – Femi Adesina

Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President, Media and Publicity, on Tuesday explained why Muhammadu Buhari repeatedly contested for the office of the president.

Buhari contested for the presidential stool in 2003, 2007 and 2011 before he eventually won in 2015.

Adesina said Buhari’s desire was to bequeath a better future to the Nigerian youth and that he needed the support of all Nigerians to make that happen.
He made this statement while playing host to National Youths Advocacy for Good Governance Initiative in his office.
Adesina said President Buhari had remained in politics because of his desire to see a new Nigeria emerge for the upcoming generation.
‘‘One of the reasons President Buhari repeatedly contested for the position of the President of Nigeria was to see the country properly take care of young people.
‘‘He strongly believes there should be a better country for the future generation.
‘‘Tell your colleagues to team up with a government that envisages a better future for this country because Nigerians deserve a better future and that is what the President is aspiring to bequeath,’’ the Special Adviser said.
In his remarks, the National Coordinator of the Youth Group, Comrade Alabi Abiodun, commended Adesina for his exemplary role and service to the nation.

He described the President’s spokesman as a lover of truth, mentor and icon for Nigerian youths.

"Herdsmen turning into another Boko Haram"

Some members of the Senate have said the killings by herdsmen across the country if left unchecked, would snowball into another security threat like the Boko Haram terrorist group.

The lawmakers, while debating a motion moved by Senator Clifford Ordia (Edo Central) titled ‘Motion on the Need to Curtail the Activities of the Fulani Herdsmen’, asked the Federal Government to step up action on the protection of lives and properties against the attacks by herdsmen.

Speaking on the motion, Senator Francis Alimikhena (Edo North) said criminal activities by herdsmen were spreading across the country.

He said, “These Fulani herdsmen (issue) is a problem; it is another Boko Haram that is rearing its head if not well nipped in the bud right now. It is very criminal for some people to start killing people, raping them, taking their possessions and they (criminals) go away with it,” he said.

Alimikhena noted that there were roads in Edo which were being avoided by people for fear of being attacked by herdsmen. He stressed that farms had also been abandoned by farmers due to the attacks on them.

He said, “They will rape to death and even kidnap their husbands. I don’t know where we are going. It is better for this Inspector General of Police to deploy his security operatives (in the area) instead of blowing the whistle that is not even fruitful and searching houses in which they will not find anything.

“These security operatives can be deployed to attack these Fulani herdsmen who are destroying our people. If this one is not well taken care of, it is another monster that will grow and destroy this country. The activities of these herdsmen – as it is in Edo State and other parts of the country now – are worrisome to every Nigerian.”

Leading the debate, Ordia said the Senate noted with serious concern “the heinous and criminal activities being perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen” who were allegedly “ravaging communities, depriving persons of right to life and prosperity; raping and defiling women and destroying farms’ crops among other criminal activities across the
country.”

Former President Goodluck Jonathan is broke - former PDP Youth Leader, Deji Adeyanju says (Video)

Former PDP youth leader and convener of the Concerned Nigerians, Deji Adeyanju, says former president Goodluck Jonathan is broke.

Adeyanju, who made the remark in an interview with Saharareporters maintained that since leaving office, the former President frequently complained of experiencing paucity of fund.
"The former president is a simple man and he is very trusting. The problem was that he trusted too many people and those people did not live up to the expectation. Personally, I do not think that the former president is corrupt. But there were too many corrupt people around him. Now, he complains that he doesn't have money. So if a former president can be complaining all the time, not just once, not twice.....he complains frequently. It’s a very complicated thing. We did our best and offered the counsel we could give but things turned out the way they did” he said
Deji commended the APC government for the ongoing war against Boko Haram and also for the return of the abducted Chibok girls which according to him, his party which is the PDP could not accomplish.

"No doubt they have tried in the war on terror Again we could not bring back any of the girls and they have brought out some of the girls. I believe that the girls were kidnapped. When it first happened I had my doubts because of the circumstances of the principal and her story not adding up but when the girls came to the villa, the ones who escaped, I saw them and I connected immediately. In fact, I came to social media to apologise that if I had raised some doubts, I was very sorry. I apologised to the Bring Back Our Girls people and I urged them to stand firm and I think those giving this conspiracy theory that the girls are looking well fed and that the girls were hidden in a politicians house...these are not necessary. These girls were taken. and we should stop politicizing the agony of the family” he said

Biafra: Why I’m fighting for secession of Igbos from Nigeria – Nnamdi Kanu

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, says the demand for the secession of Igbos and the entire South-East from Nigeria is because Nigeria is not functioning well and can never function.

Kanu said this during an interview with Al-Jazeera, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Biafran war on Tuesday May 30.
In a chat at his Father’s house in Umuahia, Abia state, Kanu said “Nothing seems to be working in Nigeria. There is pain and hardship everywhere. What we’re fighting (for) is not self-determination for the sake of it. It’s because Nigeria is not functioning and can never function.”
Kanu who was granted bail last month, says he doesn’t care if he is flouting one of the terms for his bail which prohibits him from granting media interviews.
“I don’t care. I can’t go outside to call for a press conference. I can’t go on Biafra Radio to broadcast. I can’t allow large (groups of) people to basically congregate outside to see me…it’s like asking me not to breathe,” he said.
Kanu decried the perceived marginalization of the Igbos in Nigeria, saying that they have been prevented from aspiring to assume important positions in the country such as President, Inspector General of Police, Chief of Army Staff amongst others
“I’m not allowed to contest for the presidency of Nigeria because I’m Igbo. I’m not allowed to aspire to become the inspector general of police because I’m Igbo.
“I’m not allowed to become chief of army staff because I’m Igbo. What sort of stupid country is that? Why would any idiot want me to be in that sort of country?” he quipped.

Sex scandal: Female member accuses Pastor Chris Kwakpovwe of making advances at her

Rita Ibeni, a member of Our Daily Manna/Manna Prayer Mountain Ministry, has claimed that her pastor, Chris Kwakpovwe made sexual advances at her.

A telephone conversation that purportedly took place between Kwakpovwe and Rita has also been leaked on the Internet.
The male voice in it can be heard expressing his love for Ibeni and interest in having sexual relations with her.
“I’m crazy about you but you are not, so I decided to take my eyes off you. I’m just looking for someone to take out, yesterday I took somebody out and I want to take you out today but you are running from me, you would have enjoyed the two days now. Even Mummy respects you,” the male voice was heard saying.
The male voice assured Ibeni of good sex, saying, “Don’t worry before I do it, I’ll tell you. Don’t you know I can do it, I will do it and you will enjoy it, you will forget your name. You will be calling my name Chris, Chris. I can’t wait to have you.
“I’m missing you crazy, please plan for us to see. If you want us to marry, we will have to plan it. I can never have more than two, I cannot cope with anyone other than Mummy and you. You don’t call or text. I’m in Lekki, working alone and I want to hear from you, I prefer Whatsapp messages.”
In reaction to the viral audio clip, the church has said that the voice in the recording does not belong to their pastor.
“The attention of the bishop and leadership of Our Daily Manna/Manna Prayer Mountain Ministry has been drawn to some voice messages being circulated via social media by some unscrupulous elements,” read the statement signed by Honesty Eguridu for pastoral council and board of deacons and deaconesses.
The statement further read: “The said audio voice recordings which have a semblance of the bishop’s voice are conveying adverse messages which are against the tenets and principles of the ODM vision.
“The most recent in the series of these cloned voice messages is the message asking the recipient to support the ODM vision with monetary donations by calling a certain number with a warning not to inform someone else about it.
“We want to state without any element of equivocation, that the voice message referred to above and others like it are not from Bishop (Dr.) Chris Kwakpovwe. The voice in these messages is not the Bishop’s voice.
“They are the handiwork of satanic agents who are employing the aid of technology to cause distraction and havoc in the body of Christ. We enjoin the Church and the general public to disregard it.”

Indonesia wants to buy more crude oil from Nigeria - Envoy

Indonesia, a South East Asia emerging economy, has indicated interest to purchase more crude oil from Nigeria.

The Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Harry Purwanto, stated this on Wednesday in Abuja when he paid a courtesy visit to the Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Dr. Maikanti Baru.

He explained that his country’s President Joko Widodo, had instructed Indonesia National Oil Company, Pertamina, to direct its attention to Nigeria in its quest to meet that country’s surging energy needs.

The call by the Ambassador signifies the prospects of soaring Nigeria’s market share in Asian emerging economies which include China and India, having lost grounds in crude oil sales in the United State of America due to advances in shale oil exploration in recent years.

Although Indonesia produces 900,000 barrels of crude oil per day, its supplements is 1.4million barrels per day consumption with 18 per cent supplies from Nigeria and 28 percent from Saudi Arabia.

Speaking during the visit of the ambassador to his office, Dr. Baru, who welcomed the development, said NNPC was interested in working with Indonesia on its initiative to replace firewood and kerosene with Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as primary domestic fuel for cooking.

MMIA Ready For Emergency Cases, Certification – Manager

The Manager, Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos,  Mr Nehemiah Auta, has said that the personnel at the airport had been adequately trained and were ready to handle emergency cases at all times.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)  reports that Auta gave the assurance while speaking at the mock emergency airport exercise held at the MMIA on Wednesday.

He said the essence of the exercise was to test the capability of the personnel and the equipment on ground to ensure that they conformed with emergency requirements.

The airport manager explained that with the required personnel on ground, there was no reason why the response time would not be met in the event of emergency at the airport.

According to him, with proper coordination, improved level of alertness and cooperation from various sister organisations in the system, emergency remains a great task.

He stressed the need to improve on the level of alertness and communication among the agencies.

“We have a structure on ground and all we need to do is to test the structure and to know how they will respond.

“We are trying to improve on the level of our alertness towards emergencies because emergencies can be in the day, at night or at anytime.

“The timely response is what matters. You can imagine an aircraft engulfed in flames, the time of response of the medical support matters. That’s the essence,’’ Auta said.

He said that with the category nine status of the MMIA, the airport had adequate fire tenders and was ready to handle emergency situations.

Auta also explained that the mock exercise was also to enable them display their might towards the certification of the MMIA airport, which would be achieved within the next few months.

On his part, the Director of Airport Operations, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Capt. Rabiu Yadudu, explained that the agency was working in line with the aerodrome emergency plan at the airport, in readiness towards the certification.

Yadudu said the exercise would lead to the certification of the airport as both personnel and equipment were being tested.

He said FAAN personnel were always compliant to the response time as stipulated by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and had taken the training very seriously.

NAN reports that the exercise, which is conducted annually, was witnessed by the National Emergency Management Agency, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the Police and other stakeholders.

Man sues Access Bank for failed N40,000 ATM Transaction, demands N100 million

Mr Musa Baba-Panya, an Abuja-based Legal Practitioner has instituted a suit in the FCT High Court against Access Bank Plc claiming N100 million for alleged defamation of his character.

Mr Chidi Ifeonye, the counsel to the plaintiff, who filed the suit on May 26, made the process available to newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja.

The plaintiff had instituted the suit as a result of the bank’s failure to reverse the N40, 000 he claimed was debited from his Diamond bank account while using the defendant’s ATM facility on March 11.

The plaintiff had described N100 million claims as general, aggravated and punitive damages for the defamation.

Baba-Panya said that the defendant’s alleged recalcitrant attitude caused him grave embarrassment, hardship and trauma.

“After a considerable waiting, no response of any sort came forth from the defendant, till date, thus was left with no option than to institute this action,’’ he said.

The plaintiff averred that the money in debt was meant to execute a printing project at the ECWA Church, Maitama on that fateful day.

“The development was most unpleasant to both the printer and I. It especially put me in unwarranted ridicule and scrutiny among the Church folks,’’ he said.

The plaintiff is seeking a declaration finding the defendant liable for the defamation of his character via its negligent conduct against him.

The plaintiff is also urging the court to compel the bank to write a letter of apology copying the Customer Relation Manager platforms of the CBN-interbank system.

He also prayed for apology letter to be forwarded to the Customer Relation Manager of Diamond Bank Plc and to the ECWA Church, Maitama, Abuja.

Baba-Panya was also seeking the award of N40, 000 being the alleged liquidated money in debt.

He also sought an interest award at inter-bank rate on the money debt effective March 11, until final judgment.

The plaintiff further asked for award of 10 per cent interest on the final judgment sum until final liquidation.

He urged the court to grant him an award of N500, 000 as cost of legal cost, including solicitor’s fees.

The matter has however not been slated for hearing.

I run Imo State like personal business – Governor Okorocha

The Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has said he runs his government like a “personal business” held in trust for the people and not with the “mindset of being a government job.”

Okorocha made the remark when he received the new Commander of the 34 Field Artillery Brigade Obinze, Brig. Gen. Hamza Ibrahim Bature at the new Governor’s Lodge, Government House, Owerri, the state capital.
In the statement by his aide, Mbidoaka Livinus, the governor admonished the new Army Commander to work with passion as that’s the only way to succeed.
Okorocha also reiterated his love for his state, saying “my people come first before anything else.”
According to Okorocha, “I can see a connection between you and me which is the passion to strive, my principle word as a governor is what can we do to effect positive change in the lives of our people.
“The contact I have with anyone that comes to serve here is the people of Imo state and that is the spirit with which I speak. I always maintain that my people come first before anything else, the people remain the pivot upon which the Rescue mission Agenda rotates.”
“I want you to join me in this drive, vision and passion to move the people and state forward. I have hunger for success, despite the huge development in the state I am not yet satisfied because I have not gotten the Imo state of my dream. I am not working with the mindset of this being a government job, I take it as a personal business held in trust for the people, which must succeed.”
The governor assured the command of every assistance needed to succeed and further advised the new commander saying, “this is an opportunity for you to showcase what you can do and who you are as you may never get the chance again. Wise men make good use of opportunity and the unwise lets it go, he opined.”
Earlier on, Bature said he came to officially present himself to the governor as the new commander and to pledge his support in ensuring security in the state.
He said “our operation is guarded by the constitution and the trust of our operation has been captured in the vision of the Chief of Army Staff which is encapsulated as to have a professionally positive army in the discharge of its constitutional roles.”

The new Commander also pledged his total support to the government and people of theED state towards securing a peaceful and crime free state.

Masquerades attack Muslims inside mosque

There was violence in Ikun Ekiti, a town under Moba Local Government on Tuesday as masqueraders attacked Muslims while breaking their fast in the Central Mosque.

The attack took place at sunset around 7pm when the Muslims had gathered in the mosque to observe the Maghrib prayer after breaking their Ramadan fast.

It was learnt that the masqueraders were irked that the Muslims had the effrontery to call for prayers when they were still celebrating their Egun festival.

Sit-at-home: Biafran struggle will remain consistent, unshakable – MASSOB

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign state of Biafra, MASSOB, Wednesday declared that the Biafran struggle would remain consistent and unshakable not minding the negative activities of security forces against the group.

In a statement issued in Abakaliki, the National Secretary MASSOB, Comrade Ugwuoke Ibem Ugwuoke commended the people of Biafra for the great compliance of the sit at home exercise which commemorated the golden jubilee celebration of Biafra declaration by General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

The statement read in part: “We have commended the people of Biafra for the great compliance of sit at home exercise to commemorate the golden jubilee celebration of Biafra declaration by General Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu. It is the greatest of all sit at home exercise having defeated the internal opposition towards the exercise raised by Ralph Uwazuruike led BIM.

“MASSOB also hail the members of IPOB and their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu for their tick and overzealousness in commemorating the 50th anniversary of Biafra. Though Nnamdi Kanu led IPOB first declared sit at home exercise for commemoration of Biafra anniversary, MASSOB makes it thicker because genuine pro-Biafra groups can never work against themselves. As there must be a leading figure in an every revolutionary stage, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu occupies that position today. Formerly it was Uwazuruike until he deviated.

“We believe that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is an opposite of Ralph Uwazuruike towards every approach for Biafra actualization and restoration. As no man or group will actualize Biafra alone without each other, MASSOB salute the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and will continue to identify with him and other genuine pro-Biafra groups. We shall continue to show love, maturity and respect to each other until our enemies and hypocrites who enjoy creating enmity and disaffection will bow to our strong and concrete affiliations”.

"Borno lost $6.9billion to Boko Haram insurgency"

Borno state lost 6.9billion dollars to the Book Haram insurgency, the state’s Commissioner of Reconstruction Rehabilitation and Resettlement Professor Babagana Umar has disclosed.

Speaking at the Stakeholders High Level Monitoring Mission to Visit to PAN Learning Center in Kaduna where 159 Internally Displaced Person's (IDP's) from the North-East are currently undergoing training on automobile engineers courtesy the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the commissioner noted that the figures were  arrived at by an assessment of the world bank which he said calls for the support of world and regional agencies towards rebuilding the ravaged communities.

He said, "It is on record that the state has lost 5,000 classrooms, 260 healthcare centres,  900 municipal buildings and 1,600 water distribution pumps, among other key structures like power lines to insurgency.

" There is urgent need for intervention in the IDPs camps in the state, sheltering about 200, 000 in Maiduguri, and about two million across the  state, where poverty is getting stronger, resulting to unsavoury stories emanating from the camps."

He commended the UNDP for the gesture, while assuring of the state government’s desire to partner with the organization towards training more youth to not only become self-reliant, but be employers.

The UNDP Livelihood programme coordinator, Mr. Mathew Also, however, said that the programme is planning to sponsor 1, 500 IDP's at the centre in order for them to be self-reliant through funding from the European Union.

The Managing Director, PAN, Alhaji Ibrahim Boyi explained that PAN centre trains its student on modern and precise methods of fault detection in vehicles and the required knowledge and skills to repairs them. He said the centre twins its students with the skills to set up a one-stop shop for automobile related issues which would be better organised including monitoring to see how they are faring.

The Director-General of the PAN Learning Centre, Mrs. Elizabeth Olubukola Mordi, said the centre’s certificate is accepted worldwide as they are currently accredited by the City and Guilds and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

One of the female trainees who spoke to newsmen, 20-year old Fatima Mohammed from Yobe who lost her father, said that she has learnt a lot and would waste no time in starting up a workshop when she graduates in July this year.

Buhari’s health: Nigerian government gives update on president

Nigerian Government has assured Nigerians that President Muhammadu Buhari is in competent hands in London where he is undergoing treatment.

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, gave the assurance on Wednesday while briefing State House reporters after the Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo.
The minister was responding to a question on the status of the president’s health.
Lai Mohammed also assured that there was no cause for alarm.
“The president is in very competent hands and there is no cause for alarm,” the minister said.
President Buhari left Nigeria for the United Kingdom on May 7 for a follow-up consultation with his doctors.
His wife, Aisha, on Tuesday departed the shores of the country to see him.

Her media aide, Adebisi Olumide, said she “will spend some time with her Husband the President Muhammadu Buhari who is presently on medical vacation.

“Mrs. Buhari expressed her appreciation to millions of Nigerians who have been praying for his quick recovery and safe return.”

Igbo commend Kanu over sit-at-home directive

The Eastern Consultative Assembly, ECA, Igbo Youth Movement, IYM and the Igbo Women Assembly, IWA, have commended the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, for “a successful” sit-at-home protest which paralysed the entire Eastern Region and beyond on May 30, 2017.

The ECA no one in doubt of Ndigbo’s preference for freedom as opposed to eternal servitude in Nigeria, while both the IYM and IWA said that the IPOB founder, Nnamdi Kanu was “their leader in whom,” they were well pleased.

In their separate reactions over the outcome of the civil disobedience, which paralysed Enugu, Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi and Imo States and partially grounded Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Asaba in Delta, as well as Bayelsa State, the three Igbo sociocultural groups further lauded Kanu for directing the sit-at-home in the entire region and beyond stressing that the exercise must be repeated often.

The ECA which reacted through its Publicity Secretary, Rev Fr John Odey, said, “We congratulate Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the IPOB for a very successful display of their popularity for the whole world to see on Tuesday, May 30, 2017.

“By the word of mouth, Nnamdi Kanu paralysed the entire eastern region and beyond by locking down the zone completely.

“The lesson here is threefold, one, our people showed all, their loyalty to the IPOB, two of our people also openly announced their total rejection of Nigeria as presently constituted, and finally our people decided to leave no one in doubt of our preference for freedom as opposed to eternal servitude.

“For this great feat, we thank Kanu for a job well done and pledge our total support. We are also saying, let’s do it again sometime soon.

Super Eagles Good Enough To Defeat Togo, South Africa - Garba Lawal

By Augustine Akhilomen

Ex international Garba Lawal believes the crop of players being assembled by Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr are good enough to overcome the Hawks of Togo and Bafana Bafana of South Africa in any international competitions.

The three-time African champs will play Togo in an international friendly match on June 1 in Paris as part of the team's preparation for the June 10, 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa at the God's will Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

It will be recalled that Nigeria managed a 1-1 draw against tiny Island Corsica last week Friday thanks to Kelechi Iheanacho's late minute penalty that saved Rohr from tasting first defeat since taking over as coach.

However, 'Chindo' as he's fondly regarded by football lovers in the country, told Soccernet.com.ng that the team could win defeat any team with the right mentality.

"I am really delighted with the crop of players in the Super Eagles camp in France. It goes to show that the technical adviser, Gernot Rohr has so much confidence on youth regardless of the club you play for, " Garba told Soccernet.com.ng.

"The result against Corsica is not a true reflection of the team but then, I forsee the best of the team coming against the Hawks of Togo.

"To be frank, this team is good enough to overcome the South Africa with or without some of big stars which we all know. It is a matter of getting it right with the approach, of which I believe Rohr has done a good job on."

Resolve fuel crisis, leave Buhari alone – Afenifere blasts Fayose

The Ekiti State Chapter of Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba social, political and cultural organization, has called on the people of the state to embark on fervent prayers for God to intervene and give them relief in the ongoing fuel crisis that has paralyzed economic activities in the State.

The group also advised Governor Ayo Fayose to stay at home and find solution to the problems afflicting the Fountain of Knowledge rather than taking delight in launching verbal attacks on the person and office of President Muhammadu Buhari “as an attention seeking gimmick.”
The local Afenifere in a press statement on Wednesday signed by its Chairman, Elder Yemi Alade and Publicity Secretary, Chief Biodun Akin-Fasae, regretted that “it is shameful that Ekiti has become a butt of uncanny jokes and fast sliding to be a pariah among other states in Nigeria despite its God-given endowments.”
In the statement titled: “God, Heal Our Land”, Afenifere in Ekiti said the scarcity of fuel unleashed on the citizenry by the governor’s face-off with petrol marketers could have been resolved by dialogue and not resort to strong arm tactics which culminated in destruction of some filling stations by suspected thugs.
It said: “Currently the economic activities of the state has run ‘berserk’ due to executive misapplication of strategic management of human and business relationship. Now, no one is sure of what happens next because of the misunderstanding between government and fuel marketers which has now degenerated into chaos.
“And this has been going on for two full weeks now and unfortunately, government is feeling comfortable and justifying its strategy by pulling down several of the fuel stations for flimsy excuse which not a few have interpreted as mere political vendetta and mere braggadocio on the part of the government.
“Our suggestion is that impunity to destroy economic livelihood of people should stop because we believe that no fuel marketer approved for himself the construction of any filling station. Government did. And if government woulds now change its mind, then a process of discussion and negotiation should be put in place rather than just breaking of the extant laws.
“This is what is called executive recklessness and this is very unacceptable. We wonder the whereabouts of Governor Ayo Fayose during the celebration of Democracy Day, a national activity. He was conspicuously absent from Ekiti for days only to resurface to abuse President Muhammadu Buhari requesting him to resign because of ill-health.
“At the same time he degraded his office by his statement on the veracity of the Chibok girls (release) saying it was a ploy to rattle the former president. All these outbursts by our governor belittles our collective humanity as a state.”
The group said further: “Our governor is now a parrot who must talk at all times in and out of season; we believe that Mr Governor should devote more time to think on how to move Ekiti forward instead of focusing and dissipating his energy on irrelevant issues.
“One would wonder what he meant when he declared Ekiti a ‘Biafra’ extension when no governor in the Southeast has so declared. Our advice is that Mr. Governor should concentrate more time on how he would complete his ‘one way flyover bridge’ which is fast becoming an albatross to the extent of his announcement that it is a federal government project.
“Afenifere also wish to sympathize with Ekiti workers that none of who has received any salary this year, some since October 2016. And yet the governor feels unconcerned so far he can dole out a thousand Naira and a cup of rice to the famished workers in the name of his stomach infrastructure, which many have described as a fraud.”

Two Dead In School Shooting In Saudi Arabia

Two people were killed and another injured when a man opened fire inside a private school's administration building in Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh, but no students were present, the head of the school told Reuters.

The shooting was "a case of a disgruntled employee," said Talal al-Maiman, CEO of Kingdom Holding and chairman of Kingdom Schools, which operated the school.

"It is with regret that the administration building of Kingdom Schools witnessed this morning a shooting incident by an Arab national who was dismissed from the school four years ago on the basis of anger issues and an unstable personality.
