Union Bank Claims Osborne Towers Apartment

Union Bank of Nigeria Plc has challenged the permanent forfeiture of a property known as Flat 7b No 16, Osborne Road Ikoyi, Lagos to the Federal Government.

The property was the same one linked to the dismissed Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ayo Oke where the EFCC recovered the sums of $43,449,947.00, €27,800 and N23,218,000.00 on the 12th of April, 2017.

At the Federal High Court Sitting in Lagos on Thursday, Union Bank laid claims to the flat and the building which it says came into its possession following a mortgage agreement between the bank, the original owner of the property, former PDP Chairman, Adamu Muazu and Tripple A Properties Investment Ltd.

Tripple A which is believed to be owned by Mr Muazu had allegedly used the property to secure a loan from the Union Bank sometime in 2011.

Buhari's administration making life difficult for Nigerians says Okogie

A former President, Christian Association of Nigeria, Cardinal Olubunmi Okogie, has asked the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari why life is becoming harder for Nigerians after it promised them change.

The former Catholic Archbishop of Lagos asked the question in a piece entitled, ‘The Truth and Nothing But the Truth,’ which was sent to The PUNCH _on Tuesday.

Okogie said 2018 was just a few days away but on the horizon of Nigerian politicians, it seemed 2019 would come before 2018. He said by their speeches, conduct and posture, “even the blind are able to see that preparations for the 2019 elections are already in top gear.”

The outspoken cleric, however, decried that in utter disregard to internal party democracy, candidates and sole candidates were already being endorsed, a development he pointed out did not portray politicians in good light. “With very few exceptions, they are powermongers pretending to be leaders, parasites posturing as benefactors,” he stated.

Buhari Reacts To Libya Slave Trade

President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to reports of the slave auction in Libya describing it as appalling and unacceptable. The president said efforts have commenced bringing back home to Nigeria, victims who are stranded in Libya or any other country and also rehabilitated.

Using his official Twitter handle on Wednesday, to react to the reports of migrants being traded in action in Libya, the President said everything will be done to protect Nigerian citizens wherever they are.

Buhari also speaking in Abidjan on Tuesday night reacted to the increased rate of illegal migration in Nigeria. Buhari reacting to a viral video on the sale of Africans in Libya, President Buhari said it is appalling that “some Nigerians (in the footage) where being sold like goats for few dollars in Libya.’’

“After 43 years of Gadhafi, why are they recruiting so many people from the Sahel including Nigerians? All they learned was how to shoot and kill. They didn’t learn to be electricians, plumbers or any other trade,’’ he said.

North Korea: Russia accuses US of provoking Kim Jong-un

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has accused the US of seeking to provoke North Korea into stepping up its nuclear missile programme.

He rejected a call by the American envoy to the UN Security Council to sever ties with the North after its latest ballistic missile test.

Speaking on a visit to the Belarussian capital Minsk, Mr Lavrov asked whether America was actively seeking to destroy North Korea. "One gets the impression that everything has been done on purpose to make Kim Jong-un snap and carry out further inadvisable actions," he said. The Americans, he said, "should explain to us all what they're after".

"If they want to find a pretext for destroying North Korea, as the US envoy said at the UN Security Council, then let them say it outright and let the supreme American leadership confirm it."

Calling for new talks with North Korea, Mr Lavrov added: "We have already emphasised several times that the squeeze of sanctions has essentially come to an end, and that those resolutions which introduced the sanctions should have included a requirement to renew the political process, a requirement to renew talks. "But the Americans completely ignore this requirement and I consider this a big mistake."

Arsenal not expecting Man Utd to 'park the bus'

Arsene Wenger is not expecting Jose Mourinho's Manchester United to 'park the bus' when they take on Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday.

Both teams go into the game on the back of three successive Premier League victories, with United sitting four points and two places above Arsenal in the table.

United are looking for their first win in eight attempts against top-six opposition under Mourinho, having drawn three and lost four of their previous seven while scoring just once.

But Wenger is not expecting his counterpart to adopt a negative approach against the Gunners.

When asked if he expects Mourinho to 'park the bus', Wenger replied: "No, I don't expect anything special. I just expect us to be ready to recover now.

"Man Utd is a strong team and I expect us just to cope with the problems they will give us. They will attack as well. They will not only defend."

Trump Tweet: On a big high

It looks like President Trump's Wednesday and Thursday morning have left him feeling very defensive of his actions, so much so that he's targeted the NYT, Democrats and Theresa May for his actions the previous day. Apart from this, he's also constantly touting the tax cuts law and the amazing economy under his rule.

🐦 Departing JBA_NAFW for St. Charles, Missouri to help push our plan for HISTORIC TAX CUTS across the finish line. A successful vote in the Senate this week will bring us one giant step closer to delivering an incredible victory for the American people!

🐦 This week, the Senate can join the House & take a strong stand for the Middle Class families who are the backbone of America. Together, we will give the American people a big, beautiful Christmas present-a massive tax cut that lets Americans keep more of their HARD-EARNED MONEY!

The Senate has passed a procedural vote on the tax bill that allows debate to begin on the measure with a final vote expected late Thursday or Friday. The procedural vote passed 52-48.

🐦 A vote to CUT TAXES is a vote to PUT AMERICA FIRST. It is time to take care of OUR WORKERS, to protect OUR COMMUNITIES, and to REBUILD OUR GREAT COUNTRY!

🐦 Now, we have a once in a lifetime opportunity to RESTORE AMERICAN PROSPERITY – and RECLAIM AMERICA’S DESTINY.

🐦 But in order to achieve this bright and glowing future, the SENATE MUST PASS TAX CUTS – and bring Main Street roaring back to life!

🐦Theresa_May, dont focus on me, focus on the destructive Radical Islamic Terrorism that is taking place within the United Kingdom. We are doing just fine!

Donald Trump has hit back at Theresa May’s criticism of his decision to retweet far-right group Britain First. Trump appeared to have tagged the wrong user in his message, however. He later re-posted the tweet, tagging theresa_may instead.

🐦 The House of Representatives seeks contempt citations(?) against the JusticeDepartment and the FBI for withholding key documents and an FBI witness which could shed light on surveillance of associates of Donald Trump. Big stuff. Deep State. Give this information NOW! FoxNews

The tweet attacks the FBI, a thorn in Trump’s side since the investigation into his campaign’s collusion with Russia to “win” the election last year. It also it harks back to Trump’s unfounded claims that the Obama administration had his “wires tapped” during the campaign, although this time he is only claiming that his “associates” were surveilled.

🐦 The only people who don’t like the Tax Cut Bill are the people that don’t understand it or the Obstructionist Democrats that know how really good it is and do not want the credit and success to go to the Republicans!

Democrats have raised concerns that the bill — which would cut the corporate tax rate to 20 percent, double the standard deduction and add an estimated $1.4 trillion to the deficit over a decade, among other things — would disproportionately benefit the wealthy.

🐦 More “Had the information (Crooked Hillary’s emails) been released there would have been harm to National Security...." Charles McCullough Fmr Intel Comm Inspector General

🐦 Funny to hear the Democrats talking about the National Debt when President Obama doubled it in only 8 years!

🐦 The Failing nytimes, the pipe organ for the Democrat Party, has become a virtual lobbyist for them with regard to our massive Tax Cut Bill. They are wrong so often that now I know we have a winnere

Someone's really not happy with the media in their country❗

🐦 The Failing nytimes has totally gone against the Social Media Guidelines that they installed to preserve some credibility after many of their biased reporters went Rogue! foxandfriends

The attack on the paper came as his row with Theresa May and her Government appeared to escalate.

🐦 The Chinese Envoy, who just returned from North Korea, seems to have had no impact on Little Rocket Man. Hard to believe his people, and the military, put up with living in such horrible conditions. Russia and China condemned the launch.

China had dispatched the envoy earlier in the month after Mr Trump travelled to China on his recent 12-day Asia tour and met with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

🐦 Stock Market hits new Record High. Confidence and enthusiasm abound. More great numbers coming out!

🐦 The Dow just broke 24,000 for the first time (another all-time Record). If the Dems had won the Presidential Election, the Market would be down 50% from these levels and Consumer Confidence, which is also at an all-time high, would be “low and glum!”

Guardiola apologises for reaction to Sterling winner

Pep Guardiola has apologised for his frenzied reaction to Manchester City's late winner against Southampton.

Raheem Sterling curled a brilliant effort home in the 96th minute, strengthening City's grip on top spot in the Premier League.

The club now lead city rivals Manchester United by eight points, winning 13 of their 14 games thus far this season and drawing one.

Guardiola celebrated the goal by running onto the pitch, and has now made sure to apologise after allowing his emotions to run away from him.

“I said ‘I apologise’ because I couldn’t control it,” said Guardiola. “I was so happy. I ran after Raheem but I’m not quick enough, but we were so happy.”

Guardiola was filmed haranguing Southampton star Nathan Redmond after the match in a bizarre altercation, but Guardiola says he was merely praising the 23-year-old's talents.

British woman wrongly tweeted by Donald Trump 'waiting' for apology
A British woman inundated with unwanted attention after US President Donald Trump sent her a scolding tweet intended for Prime Minister Theresa May said on Thursday (Nov 30) she was waiting for an apology.

Theresa Scrivener, who used her middle name to set up the Twitter account @TheresaMay in 2009, has received scores of messages and phone calls after the overnight tweet caused a diplomatic spat.

Trump's message was promptly deleted and reposted with the correct twitter handle, but not quickly enough for Scrivener's account - with its six followers and handful of posts - to escape notice.

"If I wanted to be famous I would have gone on '(The) X Factor'," the unimpressed 41-year-old told Britain's Press Association, referring to the popular TV talent contest.
Speaking from her home in Bognor Regis, a seaside town 89km south-west of London, she said: "It's amazing to think that the world's most powerful man managed to press the wrong button.

"I'm just waiting for a call from the White House with an apology."

Trump's message told May to focus on her own affairs after she rebuked his decision to retweet anti-Muslim videos published by the deputy leader of a British far right group.

Scrivener described the "surreal" experience of waking up on Thursday to phone calls from media outlets around the world.

She revealed most messages received so far were supportive, including many from Americans apologising for their President's conduct.

"He needs to think before he tweets. We - Theresa May and I - are so different. Our profiles are completely different. She runs the country, I'm a mum from Bognor," she said.

"I hope now I've said my piece I will be left alone."

Photo: I witnessed the sale of 20 Nigerian girls and death of 25 :Libyan returnee
A Nigerian returnee from Libya has revealed that 25 compatriots, ferried from Nigeria to Libya by a trafficker identified as Charles, perished in the Sahara Desert, in the course of the journey.

The returnee, who identified himself as Alex Otoide, from Edo state, said seven members of the group also died inside a Libyan jail.

“We were 55 that travelled from here to Libya, 25 people died in the desert.More than seven people died from hunger and thirst inside the prison”, Otoide said in a report published by TheNation newspaper today.
Otoide spoke with journalists in a government camp in Benin City.

He said the human trafficking agent, Charles collected the N500, 000 from him with a promise of a better life in Europe. He, however, regretted that instead of Europe, he ended up in a Libyan jail.

He said but for providence, things could have been worse for him as he witnessed the sale of 20 Nigeria girls in the prison where they were all kept.

“They sold about 20 girls in the night. I saw it. It was God that saved me.”
“I left Nigeria with N500,000. I spent six months in Libya jail after the man that took my money ran away. The Nation reported that many of the returnees look skinny and exhausted while some of the women among them came back to the country with babies, whose fathers are not known.

Charles, the returnees said, is running a transit camp in Libya for those who wanted to travel illegally across the Mediterranean to Europe.

He regularly made a trip back to Nigeria where he persuaded desperate young men and women that he can help them to get to Europe from Libya for a fee of about N500, 000.

But according to the deportees, after collecting the money, Charles usually abandoned them in Libya.

The human trafficking kingpin reportedly operated several bank accounts with different names in Nigeria through which he collected money from victims.

They alleged Charles kept Nigerians for days without food in his camp in Libya. Many of the migrants don’t even make it to Libya as they died of exhaustion in the Sahara desert, according to the migrants.

Osas Blessing, one of the returnees said Charles is among those nicknamed “burgers” or “connection man” on the Libya route.

He said:
“I gave Charles N450, 000 but when I got to Libya he increased it to N600, 000. He is very wicked. He does not care for human life. He is a Benin man. He will say if you die you die. He pushed us into the sea at the wrong time.
“I heard he just left Nigeria with new passengers to Libya. He has frustrated many Nigerians.”

Cross River breaks Nigeria’s budget record; hits N1 trillion

Gov. Ben Ayade of Cross River has presented a budget of N1.3 trillion for the 2018 fiscal year to the Cross River House of Assembly for deliberation and passage, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
The budget is the largest for a single state in Nigeria’s history.

Lagos state held the record with its N812 billion budget for 2017. The state has indicated its 2018 budget may also hit N1 trillion.

Most states in Nigeria propose budgets at average N150 billion to N300 billion.

The biggest annual spenders are Lagos, Rivers and Akwa Ibom. The entire federal budget for 2018 is a little above N8 trillion.

Gov. Ayade, who presented the budget on Thursday in Calabar, said the proposal was designed to add value to the socio-economic development and well being of the people of the state.

Mr. Ayade, who tagged the budget as “Budget of Kinetic Crystallisation’’, said it was meant to “crystallise” what the state had achieved in the past two years of his administration.

He said the priority of the budget was to develop the state’s deep sea port and the super highway which he said were his two marked projects.

The governor said 70 per cent of the budget was for capital expenditure and 30 per cent,re-current expenditure.

According to him, the size of the budget is expected to create room for potential investors, now that the annual construction of the state deep sea port and superhighway has commenced.

He added that the budget was for actualisation and implementation of the state deep sea port, super highway and other laudable projects earmarked for completion.

“The 2018 budget of N1.3 trillion, tagged `Kinetic Crystallisations’, is meant to drive the economy of the state to an enviable height.

“The sum of N126 billion was budgeted for the Ministry of Infrastructure. This is to help us develop critical assets in the state.

“N7 billion was also budgeted for the state job centre with a view to helping us train our unemployed youths with marketable job skills.

“Also, we have budgeted N2 billion for our school feeding programme. In addition to that, we also budgeted N52 billion for social welfare to care for the aged.

“My administration is human friendly and my desire is to ensure that every family has what to eat before going to bed,’’ he said.

The governor further said that the garment factory, with 1,000 workers, would be increased to 3,000 in 2018 as part of his administration’s drive to engage the unemployed in the state.

NAN reports that the 2018 budget is far higher than the 2017 budget of N301 billion.

Responding, the Speaker of the Assembly, John Gaul-Lebo, commended the governor for commencing work on the deep sea port and the super highway.

Mr. Gaul-Lebo said that the two projects, when completed, would attract more investors to the state and improve its revenue profile.

He assured the governor of the assembly’s continued support for the economic and political growth of the state.

Christmas Traditions in Nigeria

Christmas is not only one of the most awaited world-wide festival celebrating the birth of Lord Jesus Christ, but it is also a popular tradition across the globe for areunion of families and distant relatives, who use this holiday to bond and spend time together. There are many Christmas traditions and cultures, famous across the world and there are many rituals which are differently followed, which make the festival of different places different, and unique.

Some of the noteworthy things from Nigeria about this popular festival are:

Christmas is the perfect time to celebrate because it is winter time in most parts of the world. Secondly, it is a world-wide recognized holiday, hence most industries grant paid leaves to their employees, and third – it is the time of new year!

In African countries, however, Christmas is celebrateddifferently. Nigeria Culture is distinct from other parts of the world, in terms of many things. It is a topic of great interest and diversity, and if you are a college or university student, you might study about unique Christmas cultures in your sociology classes. If needed, you can get essays written for you on Nigerian traditions, which also includes Christmas as one of the most important times of the year.

The demography of Nigeria suggests that almost 60% of the people are Christians, while other 40% comprise of majorly Muslims and other religions. Many people also follow tribes and village culture, and mostly Nigeria belongs to rural and semi-rural areas.

·         It is the time to bond – Nigerian families travel to villages from cities, to spend time with their relatives, and elderly who are still residing in rural areas. There they feast on festive foods and enjoy together. African cultures are pretty close and involve intimate relationships between families, and during holiday time, they come alive in the form of a country-wide celebration.

·         Perfect time for Feasts – African cities and villages are famous for their peculiar, yet traditional food, which becomes the center of attraction during Christmas time. They feast on Nigerian meals, which includes chicken, goat, rice & stew, candies, rice pudding and biscuits in sweet-dishes. It is a tradition in Nigeria that mostly the women cook during holiday time. Either it is the woman of the house who cooks, or it is the eldest daughter. In any case, the cooking starts right when the day begins, and the meal served at the feast is sumptuous and fulfilling, compared to what they have access to, for the rest of the year.

·         Shopping at its fullest –Christmas timeis the most celebrated time of the year, during which shopping is at full zenith. Children expect new clothes from their parents as a gift for the holiday, so the local shops and malls are full of shoppers and especially children during this time.

·         Masquerade Dances – In many Nigerian cultures, masquerades dress up, like in Halloween in western countries, and they dance around in the neighborhoods, wandering from home to home, asking for money or gifts for the holiday season. People also give generously and do not disappoint or hurt the feelings of anyone.

·         Holiday Decorations – Africans do not just decorate their own houses with colored balls and strings of lights, but they also light up the entire neighborhoods, markets, malls, streets and every place they go. Christmas trees can be seen anywhere, during this time of the year.

·         Knock-Out – ‘All day knock-out’ is a famous phrase used by Nigerian folks, which refers totaking a leave and bursting crackers all day. Fireworks are common, yet a delectable sight in Nigeria. Every household engages itself in buying crackers and fireworks, to express their happiness for the festival.
·         Father Christmas – Instead of western children asking for ‘Santa Claus’ to visit them at night, eat the cookies, drink the milk, and leave presents for them under the tree, African kids believe that father-Christmas will visit them and give them gifts. The culture of ‘Secret Santa’ was also popular in African offices and workplaces, where employees behaved as ‘Secret Santa’ for each other and gave each other presents generously.

·         Animal Slaughter – Animal slaughter is a common sight in Nigerian subculture, where people purchase animals and birds like chicken, hen, ducks, goat and other mammals, and slaughter them for their festival feast. They also gift animals to their loved ones during this time, to mark the beginning of the celebration.

·         Palm Decorations – As popular as the Christmas tree is in the west, the palm replaces it here in Nigeria. People use woven or sometimes, unwoven palm leaves to decorate their homes and offices. Palm is very common tree in the country, so it is seen abundantly as an item of decoration. It is also considered a good luck charm in many communities.

Mugabe recovering from cold after “resignation shock”

(dpa/NAN) Catholic priest and long-standing friend of Mugabe, Fidelis Mukonori says ousted Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe is in good spirits, though recovering from a touch of cold.

Mukonori said on Thursday that Mugabe was still in his Harare mansion with his wife Grace, whose unpopularity was a catalyst behind a bloodless military coup earlier this month.

“He is at his house in Borrowdale, I talked to him a few days ago and he was in high spirits, he said he was recuperating from the cold but is generally okay,’’ he said.

Mugabe’s sons, Robert Junior and Chatunga, who are known for their lavish playboy lifestyle, are outside the country but Mukonori refused to disclose the exact location.

The 93-year-old’s almost four decades in power were marred by human rights abuses, corruption and the destruction of the country’s once vibrant economy.

Mugabe’s former deputy Emmerson Mnangagwa was sworn in as president recently.

While Mnangagwa was quick to hail Mugabe as a father figure and laud his role in Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle, he also promised a new chapter for the country.

The ruling Zanu-PF party said it would not be calling for the former president’s prosecution over alleged crimes, with some media reporting the Mugabes had been given a multi-million dollar retirement package instead.

“Mugabe is our elder statesman, he deserves respect.

“He is not going to be prosecuted,’’ Zanu PF deputy legal secretary Paul Mangwana told newsmen, refusing to comment on any financial settlement negotiated before Mugabe’s exit.

Presidency approved $40 million contract to Jonathan’s cousin’s firm, EFCC tells Court

Trial of a cousin to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Azibaola Robert and his wife, Stella, took a new dimension on Thursday, as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, told the Federal High Court in Abuja that payment for $40million contract that was awarded to the defendants’ firm, Oneplus Holdings Limited, was duly authorised by the Presidency.

Azibola and his wife, Stella, are answering to a seven-count criminal charge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, preferred against them.

At the resumed hearing, the 10th Prosecution witness, PW-10, in the case, Mr. David Mkpe, who is an EFCC operative that investigated the deal between the company and the Office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, told trial Justice Nnamdi Dimgba that he was aware of a Presidential memo approving both the contract and payment for the job. Mkpe, who was cross examined by the defence counsel, Mr. Chris Uche, SAN, told the court that his investigative team case across the memo from the ONSA, which he said okayed the payment of $40 million to Oneplus Holdings Ltd.

Mkpe also admitted that the $40 million paid to Oneplus was not the only payment for security assignment from accounts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, through the Office of the NSA under Col. Sambo Dasuki, rtd. Asked if he saw the memo from ONSA through which the payment of $40m was made to Oneplus account, Mkpe replied, “Yes, my lord. The payment was duly authorised by the NSA.” He said: “My lord funds from which the $40m was paid to Oneplus came from NNPC funds.

In March 2014, Lt-Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd) wrote a memo to the President entitled “Intervention in Urgent National Security Project” through which he sought the approval of Mr. President for the sum of $1bn for subheads and surveillance of pipelines and additional request for $250m. “The President gave approval to his request. The President approved the release of the sum of $1.2bn. In May the sum of $1.2bn was then released from NNPC accounts. “ It was this fund that was disbursed to various recipients.

The $40m was part of the $1.2bn statutorily approved and released for urgent national security intervention. I can confirm.” EFCC is prosecuting the defendants for allegedly diverting $40 million purportedly meant for the supply of tactical communication kits for Nigeria’s Special Forces.

The funds were alleged to have been transferred from the account of the Office of the NSA with the Central Bank of Nigeria to the domiciliary account of their company, OnePlus Holdings. The offence, according to the EFCC, contravenes Section 8(a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 as amended in 2012 and punishable under Section 15 (3) of the same Act. Justice Nnamd Dimgba has adjourned the trial to 22 and 23 January 2018 to enable the defence to cross examine more of the prosecution witnesses.
I take responsibility for Maina’s reinstatement – Perm Sec

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Mr Abubakar Magaji, has owned up to administrative lapses in the purported reinstatement of dismissed former Chairman, Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina.

Magaji conceded the responsibility when he appeared before members of House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee investigating the “disappearance, reappearance, reinstatement and promotion of Maina’’ in Abuja on Thursday.

According to him, the reference letter made to inform the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation that Maina resumed duty was a letter sent to the Federal Civil Service Commission.

“When I observed this upon resumption from sick leave, I quickly replied to the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita, apologising to her about the reference letter.

“But service is an institution, whatever happened in the process of the minutes, the permanent secretary is the head of the administration and I am here to take responsibility.

“Whatever the Interior Ministry has done wrongly in accordance with the way the administrative matter has been done to the end of this matter, I take responsibility because I cannot reject.

“I am the permanent secretary, head of administration and I take responsibility for any administrative wrongdoing that Ministry of Interior has done,’’ Magaji said.

Earlier, Oyo-Ita had insisted that the ministry acted in error on the issue.

She stated that the letter of Maina’s reinstatement was not endorsed by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation and the letter of posting not delivered to him.

According to her, the Ministry of Interior did not wait to get posting directives from the Head of Civil Service but it went ahead to act on advance copy issued by the Federal Civil Service Commission.

Oyo-Ita, therefore, insisted that Maina was not reinstated into the service.

“The Federal Civil Service Commission considered the administrative aspect of the case which is punishable by dismissal and the letter reinstating Maina has not been delivered.

“Therefore, he stands dismissed and was never reinstated into the service,’’ she said.

In his submission, the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami, said that his office had commenced investigation into the letter directing Maina’s reinstatement.

Malami said that though work was in progress over Maina’s demand to be reinstated based on a court judgment, “the letter of his reinstatement may not have emanated from my office as at Oct. 5, 2017’’.

He maintained that he did not author nor sign letters purported to have emanated from his office directing the Federal Civil Service Commission to cause Maina’s reinstatement.

“The request for Maina’s reinstatement as submitted to my office by Maina’s lawyers was a work-in-progress as at Oct. 5, 2017,’’ he added.

He told the committee that he had set up a panel of enquiry headed by the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry to investigate issues revolving around the letter.
Goodluck Jonathan believed I was responsible for the disappearance of Chibok schoolgirls - Borno state governor
Kashim Shettima, governor of Borno state, says President Goodluck Jonathan nearly removed him in 2014 with the belief that he was responsible for the disappearance of Chibok schoolgirls.

He said Mohammed Bello Adoke, who was the attorney-general of the federation at the time, told the president “you don’t have the power to remove even an elected councillor”.

Adoke’s position was supported by Taminu Turaki, minister of special duties, Shettima said.

He was speaking on Thursday at the launch of ‘On a Platter of Gold: How Jonathan Won and Lost Nigeria’, written by Bolaji Abdullahi — who served as a minister under Jonathan from 2011-2014.

”The people around Jonathan told him that I was hiding the girls, that there was no abduction. They said I was hiding the girls to embarrass him,” he said.

He described Jonathan as a “decent person” who was misled by the people around him.

”The whole world was talking about the abduction for three weeks before Jonathan spoke with me for the first time. He summoned the principal of the school and the commissioner for education to Abuja and ordered the IG to arrest them,” Shettima said.

He also revealed that the police commissioner and  Chibok DPO were summoned while the brigade commander, who was an Ijawman, was left out.

”Those who advised the president did not want him to know the truth. They knew that the Ijaw officer, who was a captain, would tell a more credible story,” the governor said, insinuation that the kidnap narrative was shaped to present it as a northern conspiracy again Jonathan.
On-Air-Personality Freeze Tackles Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo's Stance On Tithing
In a video which has gone viral on social media, Nigerian Pastor and Founder of Kingsway International Christian Center located in the United Kingdom with branches in Nigeria, Matthew Ashimolowo decided to weigh in on the tithing issue.
Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo replies Freeze on tithe #1

Although the pastor did not mention names, he referred to the person he was referring to as a “yoyo” and said such person should not determine Christian’s belief. The man of God went further to describe the person as a wife beater who sleeps with different women.

Whoever the 'yoyo' is, one thing is certain, he cannot determine what the body of Christ believes, only the BIBLE can do that, so until you can come out with a superior argument to explain where Jesus our high priest, or the disciples our first pastors collected tithes, it looks like the 'yoyo' is the one speaking the biblical truth and no amount of subbing or name calling can override the scriptures.

Maina: I did not endorse letter for ex-Pension Chairman’s reinstatement – Head of Service, Oyo-Ita
The Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winfred Oyo Ita, on Thursday denied endorsing the letter for the reinstatement of former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reform, Abdulrasheed Maina.

Oyo-Ita made the denial during the ongoing investigative hearing of the House of Representatives on the reinstatement of Maina.

The Head of Service said the Ministry of Interior acted on an advance copy sent to the Federal Civil Service Commission, which was for information purpose.

According to Oyo-Ita, “An officer cannot be written an official letter without it passing through a superior, any such letter must pass through the administrative head before it’s sent to the officer, it is the normal administrative line of correspondence.

“I did not endorse the letter for the reinstatement of Maina. Recall I brought the letter for sighting last week, it was never sent to Maina. That letter is still in my possession.

“What the Ministry of Interior did was they acted on an advance copy sent to them by the Federal Civil Service Commission for information purpose only. I never endorsed that copy, I already explained that last week.

“For the perm sec to say the reinstatement of Maina was coming from the HoS of the federation was a bit limited in facts.”
Banky W addresses rivalry between Davido and Wizkid, congratulates both artistes on Mobo award win
Newly-wed singer, Banky W, took to his IG page to congratulate his fellow singer, Davido on his win as ‘Best African act’ at the Mobo Awards.

In the same post, he took out time to address the issue of rivalry between Davido and Wizkid, stating that there isn’t any need for such childish behavior as there is enough room in the sky for all of our stars to fly.

He also begged Nigerians to stop colliding Wizkid and Davido as the only thing better than one Superstar is Two.

He wrote;

Wiz and David are both extremely important to the Naija/African music movement and culture, and I personally HATE it when ppl try to make it seem like you have to choose one or the other. There’s enough room in the sky for all of our stars to fly, so instead of us encouraging a childish, petty narrative that never ends well (remember Pac/Biggie?), we shld encourage all of our acts to be all they can be. I don’t wanna choose. Why should I have to?

I want Wiz AND David AND Olamide AND Kiss Daniel AND Tiwa AND Yemi and eeeeevery last one of us who have somehow managed to break through, to remain successful and relevant. I pray the same for all our upcoming talents who are about to make it.

After all, no one wins when the family feuds. I’m clear why I’m here.. how about you? #jayzvoice

Drama as HOS, Oyo-Ita, Ministry of Interior disagree over ex-Pension boss’ reinstatement
There was a mild drama between the Ministry of Interior and the Head of Civil Service, HoS, Winifred Oyo-Ita, on Thursday over the reinstatement of former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reform, Abdulrasheed Maina into the civil service.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Abubakar Magaji, had stated that the decision for the reinstatement of Maina was taken after a meeting between his Ministry and representatives of the Office of the HoS.

Magaji stated that, following the meeting, the HoS was directed to take “further necessary action.”

The Permanent Secretary made the disclosure while addressing the House of Representatives investigative panel on Maina’s reinstatement in Abuja.

According to Magaji, “The Ministry conducted Senior Staff Committee meeting for the reinstatement of Maina after receiving a letter from the office of the Head of Service to reconsider the earlier position taken by the Ministry in dismissing Maina for reinstatement.

“The meeting was held in the Ministry with the presence of the representatives of the Head of Service, the Federal Civil Service Commissioner who without anyone of them, the meeting would have been null and void.

“The meeting took the decision to reinstate Maina and copy of that meeting’s minute was sent to the office of the Head of Service for further necessary action.

“That action, as Civil Servants, we expected a meeting of management committee to look at the presentation of Ministry of Interior Senior staff committee where they will disagree or agree before sending it to the Federal Civil Service Commission for further necessary action.

“The meeting on the reinstatement of Maina was initiated, directed by us to be conducted by the Office of the Head of Service.”

However, Oyo-Ita dismissed the assertion by the Permanent Secretary, saying Magaji’s stance was an indication that he is a “bit limited in facts.”

“For the perm sec to say the reinstatement of Maina was coming from the HoS of the federation was a bit limited in facts,” she said.

Magaji, however, contradicted himself while responding to a question from the panel when he declared that Maina was not reinstated.
According to Magaji, “Maina was not reinstated. That he is entering the ministry does not mean he was part of the workforce.

“I challenge anyone who has documents showing that Maina was reinstated and assigned an office in the Ministry of Interior to show it.

“I’m the permanent Secretary. I did not reinstate Maina and I know my colleagues here didn’t do that behind me,” he said.

Teenager Rescued From S*xual Abuse By Her Uncle In Lagos
The Child Protection Unit of Lagos Ministry of Youth & Social Development has rescued a 14-year-old girl, Favour Ifeanyi from s*xual abuse in the hands of a supposed Uncle.

The incident happened at Shasha, Akowonjo in Alimosho area of Lagos.

Favour was rescued following calls from anonymous persons to the Child Protection Unit’s hotline to inform the government of the illicit acts observed at Millennium Estate, Afonka, Shasha where Favour resides with her relatives.

While narrating her experience after the Ministry’s intervention, Favour said that she had experienced series of s*xual abuse by one Nelson, since accommodation problems made her move into his two-bedroom apartment with her cousin – Mrs. Eze Kelechi in 2015.

She claimed that Nelson abused her s*xually for two years until she got pregnant in June 2017, adding that he also made efforts to abort the pregnancy resulting from his illicit act by persuading her to consume unprescribed drugs.

Favour said after a scan revealed that she was three months pregnant, the matter was subsequently reported to the Police following the suspects refusal to take responsibility for the pregnancy.

However, in response to the call received, the Child Protection Unit has taken custody of the girl for rehabilitation and care pending the conclusion of investigations by Police and the State Government.

Earlier this year, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola called on members of the public to report cases of child abuse in order to prosecute perpetrators and end the menace in the society.

Nigerian Big Boy Buys 2017 Toyota Prado For His Pastor As Birthday Gift
A businessman who has seen the evidence of what real prayers can do in a person's life, has surprised his pastor with a brand new 2017 Toyota Prado as a birthday gift. Nice one!

Like I said before, a woman built a house for a pastor in the Bible. Pastor is not a person who should spend all his time working to make money like others. Rather, he should be spending time in the presence of God to make life better for others and in turn those people should bless him/her.

Senator Adeyeye wants allowances of all politicians reduced
The senator representing Osun Central Senatorial district, Olusola Adeyeye, on Wednesday called for a reduction in allowances of all political office holders in Nigeria, including senators.

The senator threw the red chamber into a rowdy session when he made this remark while speaking on the 2018 budget appropriation.

The budget has faced series of criticisms from the lawmakers since the start of the debate on Tuesday.

Adeyeye said the allowances of all politicians, including senators, must give way to make the budget realisable.
“If we are all going to complain, let’s face it,” he said. “I don’t want deficit budget. If we don’t want it and we want to slash the budget of N8 trillion to N4 trillion, some things must give way including the allowances of all politicians.”

This remark was followed by shouts of ‘it begins with you’ from Senators as they urged Mr. Adeyeye to take the lead in the recommendation.

‘Yes, I agree,’ he replied.

“I’m just saying that there is no gain without pain and we all know it. I agree with you, beginning with me, I agree.

“Here in this place, weeks after weeks, we create new entities that will consume more money at a time when we know the revenue is not increasing. Even this N8 trillion that we are talking about, I bet you, all of us, including myself will go and ask for more things for our constituency, where do we want the money to come from?

“If we are going to face the truth, we must face the truth together.”

Another Kogi Civil Servant Commits Suicide
47 year-old Abdullahi Uye Zhiya from Oguma in Bassa, Kogi state has killed himself by intentionally drinking a dose of substance suspected to be poisonous chemical.

His frustration may not be unconnected to the non-payment of his salaries of about 12 months.

Close family sources told Daily Post that for over one year, life had not been favourable as everything turned for the worst for him.

Another family source confirmed that he was a hardworking man, and that "because he had been without salary for several months, his situation became unbearable.”

It was gathered that many relations have been reaching out to him in terms of help, but it was not sufficient, hence he decided to end it in death.

Another version of his story from some of his relatives indicated that the deceased may not have taken his life because of his economic challenges, but that there seemed to be other challenges which he refused to disclose.

According to the source, “We suspect that what happened has a spiritual undertone. The deceased at some point became withdrawn, but even when we asked he was never forthcoming.”

The deceased as the chief store officer at the State Universal Basic Education office in Oguma was described by his colleagues as an easy going man who avoided trouble.

Buhari Should State His Role In Mainagate; ex-NBA president, CSOs tell President
Some Civil Society Organisations, as well as a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), on Wednesday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to state his role in the controversy surrounding the reinstatement of the Chairman of the defunct Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina.

They added that the revelations that followed the controversial reinstatement had dented the image of Buhari and called for a panel to investigate all issues surrounding Maina.

The former PTFPR boss had said Buhari asked the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), to strike a deal with him (Maina).

Agbakoba, who spoke to Punch on phone, urged the President to break his silence on the issue.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria said Maina had dented the President’s image by his claims, wondering why a “common” suspect like the fugitive “cannot be arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission unless somebody somewhere at the highest level of government is protecting him.”

He said, “Only the President can break this conundrum; otherwise, my personal belief is that right inside Aso Rock, there is some protection. If not, how can a man go in and out of Nigeria with the ease? How can Maina make allusion to the President asking him to meet with the AGF?

“In fact, what has happened is that the President’s image has been dented. Maina has dented the President’s image by alluding to the fact that the President had contact with him and instructed the AGF to make a deal with him.

“What I expect is for the President to immediately clear the air on what is going on.”

He said the claims by Maina had impugned the integrity of President Buhari’s anti-corruption war, adding that the President would be doing himself a favour by speaking on the issue.

He said, “The whole thing is a mess and it is difficult to know who to believe. It has, in my view, created the biggest dent in the President’s anti-corruption crusade because we have all the agencies quarrelling. We have the Attorney-General of the Federation quarrelling with the Head of Service, and so on.

“It sounds so ridiculously unbelievable and I think the President will be doing himself a big favour to break his silence, particularly as Maina said the President approved the meeting.”

The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, and the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, noted that Maina had more confessions to make.

They called on the President to inaugurate a panel of retired judges to investigate the allegations made by Maina.

The SERAP Director, Adetokunbo Mumumi, said based on the allegations by Maina, Buhari should set up an investigative committee that is not controlled by the presidency.

He said, “What Maina has said so far are allegations and counter-allegations. What should happen now is that an independent committee of enquiry consisting of retired judges must investigate the Maina scandal. The President must set up a committee of retired incorruptible judges.

“We don’t want anyone from the presidency or under the control of the President. It is not a question of investigation made up of people in the presidency, the senate and the House of Representatives.”

Also, the CACOL Director, Debo Adeniran, said, “Maina’s confession is not yet a revelation until it is proven. It could be his creative way of exoneration. The way forward is to let us have Maina speak up more. He threatened that he was going to name some names. If he does not give those names, he should be treated as an accomplice who is withholding information from the authorities.

“He claimed that he recovered so much money between the last administration and the present one. He should make public the details of the recovery so that we can see his credibility. The anti-graft agencies must probe Maina further to get the information at his disposal.”

Also a civil society group, Advocates for Peoples Rights and Justice, said Malami’s secret visit to the former boss of the task force on pension reforms in Dubai indicated that he and other officials were complicit.

The Coordinator of the group, Victor Giwa, noted that Buhari might have been misinformed by his officials about the matter, adding that that probably explained why he ordered Maina’s sacking after he heard that the former pension reforms boss had been reinstated.

The activist demanded that Malami and the National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Monguno, should clear the air on their reason for the Dubai visit.

“People like the NSA and Malami who visited Maina should clear the air on the position of the President. Also, they might have misrepresented the President and until Buhari speaks, we may never know the truth,” Giwa said.

The National Coordinator, Advocates for Good Governance, Macdonald Akhirome, said Nigerians would continue to hold the government accountable for its action on the issue.

He admonished Buhari to tell Nigerians the truth about Maina’s reinstatement, noting that his silence on the matter “speaks volumes about certain things that may not be understood at the moment.”

Akhirome said, “Our take is that the fact speaks for itself, it is glaring before the people, but one would expect that the government would take responsibility for its inaction and action.”

Maina, who is wanted by the EFCC, in a video sent to Channels Television, claimed that the President gave Malami the nod to “go and sit down with Maina.”

The former pension reforms boss had claimed that he had not been taken to any court of law, noting that he had sued security agencies and had “four court judgments.”

Also, the Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita, had said, in a leaked memo dated October 23, that Buhari was aware of the reinstatement of Maina, noting that she warned the President against it.

In the memo, Oyo-Ita had said her warning was based on the implications that such reinstatement would have on the anti-corruption war of the Federal Government.

‘Direct your enquiries to AGF’ When contacted, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said all enquiries relating to Maina should be directed to the Attorney-General of the Federation.

“Everything on Maina should be directed to the AGF,” Adesina said.

But the AGF neither answered Punch’s calls nor responded to a text sent to his mobile phone.

A Prayer For Divine Direction
A lot of people lack direction; they are living on the basis of things they learn while growing up with family. But, for every issue you face in life, there are ways of dealing with them, effectively.

Even our Lord Jesus Christ did not heal every one the same way. Don't box yourself.
He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God? – Micah 6:8We naturally want to determine our own course in life. It seems like the only logical way to get where we want to go. But being wise in our own eyes is pride. To combat this tendency, the Lord instructs us to fear Him and turn away from evil (v. 7). This “fear” is not a horrified dread of the Father, but an attitude of respect that motivates us to obey Him for both our good and His glory.

We naturally want to keep our money for ourselves. A desire for a better lifestyle or fear of not having enough leads us to hang onto everything we get. But our compass directs us to honor God by giving Him the first part of all we have, trusting Him to provide for our needs (vv. 9-10).

We naturally hate God’s discipline. His painful reproofs seem to prove that He doesn’t care about us. But our heavenly Father says His discipline is the evidence that confirms His love and delight in us as His children (vv. 11-12).

Sometimes in our desire to follow the Lord, we focus on obedient actions—doing what He says—but miss His directions concerning our attitudes and thought patterns. To stay on God’s path for our lives, we must make course corrections not only in our behavior but also in our hearts and minds.

Prayer for direction from the Lord:
Dear Lord, I confess that I often ignore or don't care to follow the path you've laid out for me. I often try to make my own path with disasterous results. Help me follow you with not only my actions, but my thoughts and attitudes. Thank you for knowing the best path for my life and for never abandoning me to my own ways. Help me remember this truth as I live out my days, and help me make necessary course corrections as I walk along the way. In Jesus' Name, Amen.[written by Dr. Charles Stanley
